Intermediate II Yiddish is the right class for students who took Winter Intensive Intermediate I Yiddish in January 2021.

What topics will this class cover?
Sholem Aleichem’s very popular work, Motl Peyse dem Khazns, began to appear in 1907 in New York and shortly thereafter in Europe. It was published serially over several years ending in 1916. It was conceived to be in two parts, “Emigrantn” and “In Amerike.” In this course we will continue to follow Motl and his family as they go from being shtetl dwellers to emigrants as part of the massive Jewish emigration out of Eastern Europe at the end of the 19th century. Through the text we will continue to develop reading, conversation and writing skills.

Course Materials:
This course will use the text Motl Peyse dem Khazns edited by Anne Gawenda and Sheva Zucker. Please purchase the textbook with the audio recording here. Note: please purchase this textbook far in advance to be sure it arrives before class begins. Any additional texts will be communicated to students by the instructor.
